Editor's Review:

The Ladders is a resume writing website for higher earners. It allows you to produce a resume using a simple 8-step questionnaire, and then utilize its wide range of job-hunting and career progression resources. Live support is available, and you are able to easily adapt your resume throughout your career.

There are two packages to choose from on TheLadders.com. Basic membership is free but you have limited access to the resume tools and other resources. Searching is also a little slow and you can’t hone in on the specifics of the jobs you’re looking for, meaning that finding your ideal position won’t be quite that easy.

The premium membership costs under $8.50 per month (on a 12 month contract) and allows unlimited access with faster searches. You can also set up accurate job alerts and receive emails when new suitable jobs come on the market. The big differences between the two packages aren’t particularly distinct, raising the question “what do I get for my money?” and the site could do a much better job at explaining the benefits of paid membership.

Once you’ve filled in a simple 8-step questionnaire, your resume is built for you. You can edit this, though the range of formats is a little limited. Rather, TheLadders tends to focus on helping you to find a job by posting your resume online and enticing employers to look at what’s on offer.

The website is somewhat lacking in some areas. Online live support is a great feature, but some areas of the FAQ need fleshing out. For example, under “Be found by recruiters” the FAQ simple says “no articles”. Well, that’s handy, thanks! In other respects, The Ladders does a much better job.

Paying members will receive automated job recommendations, allowing you to sit back and apply for work without having to constantly search through thousands of positions. This could be a real time saver in the long run as it can be tiresome looking through thousands of jobs on a variety of websites.

Anybody can view the trending jobs that are available, including the details of the employer, wages and more. Employers perform more than 25,000 searches each day on the site, so you ought to attract some attention with the right resume online.

If you’re looking for a stand-out resume to print and send to employers, this isn’t the best website for you. However, if you like to keep things digital, using your resume to find potential employers, suitable jobs, or to have employers get in touch with you, this is certainly an option worth considering. The website might be lacking in some details here and there, but in terms of listing jobs, providing automated recommendations and helping to support you in finding a new job, it could really work.

Prices for premium membership are low, making membership to TheLadder.com a reasonable investment for your future. If you’re interested in finding out more about how the team can help you to find your ideal job, their live chat staff are on hand.
