Editor's Verdict:

Undoubtedly ResumePower's main asset is its provision of personal assistance from its team of professional creators when building your resume; the client services director, Reese Bellamy, will then work with you personally to create your unique resume, presenting your assets and achievements to their best possible advantage, and including important keywords to ensure your resume will come up when employers perform certain database searches.

When purchasing the software, you apply for an individual quote. This reflects your career history and so will differ for each, but our quote for a newly-qualified graduate was several hundreds of dollars, even for the standard package! This is a large financial commitment and, unless you specifically wish for one-to-one assistance when writing your resume, is probably not worth it, given the range of other products on the market for lower prices.

All software includes the basic resume-writing package, but if you wish for such extras as help writing cover letters, you will need to opt for one of the more expensive pieces of software. Indeed, even the Deluxe package only contains one cover letter template - to receive three you will need to purchase the Premium package. When other software are offering a far more impressive range of letter templates as standard, it is debatable whether the extra cost is really worth it in this case.

Other features offered by the more expensive packages include the creation of a list of references, which is useful to have prepared in advance so that it is simply to hand when required, and, for the Job-search survival kit, the opportunity to publish your resume online and to track appointments and applications with the log. With the most expensive package, you can also write a 'networking resume', which is a shorter and more concise version of your main resume to give to contacts when networking.

The Website itself is certainly worth a visit, as it offers plenty of free advice, including sample resumes and cover letters which are always helpful for ideas and structure. As there are resumes to match a range of different careers, you can ascertain which style best suits your particular vocation. The career articles available to read on the website are also meritorious and cover several major factors in resume-writing, such as ensuring your resume is read and how to sell yourself despite lack of experience. The resume makeover could be a useful port of call for those unsure of how to improve their existing resume in both style and the way information is presented, to make it more eye-catching and impressive. There are also a couple of free guides to common issues faced when writing a resume, and a free monthly newsletter with extra tips.

ResumePower is likely to be chosen by those who wish to have personal attention and someone on hand to ask when questions arise. The features available in its software are somewhat depleted compared to those of rival softwares, and the value for money is very poor, although there is no harm in getting a personal quote. We found that the very lack of price-guides was something of an irritation, as it is nice to consider a product without having to make contact and thus share your details. (However, do note that the company does not share details with third parties.) The website is, nevertheless, excellently constructed, with a wealth of free advice; the articles covering various career-related topics are especially helpful and relevant.
