Editor's Verdict:

It is something of a relief to find a piece of resume-writing software that is actually fairly priced; unlike many of its rather over-priced competitors, MyResumes is an affordable $9.99, and, again refreshingly, for that you get to permanently keep the software, without having to bother about paying for updates or renewing subscriptions. However, My Resumes does contain rather fewer features than many of the resume-writing software higher up on our top ten list, and this should be weighed with its lower cost, depending on your priorities.

My Resumes contains all the basic features needed to get you started on your resume; it has a simple format, allowing you to enter in all the necessary details of your qualifications, work history and skills. If you're struggling to get started, there is a stock of key phrases to help out and give an idea of the sort of style to aim for. There are also sample resumes for a range of professions to give some further inspiration.

A feature that impressed us is the choice of themes and backgrounds, which offers the opportunity of making your resume more attractive and engaging. To add to this, there is also the option of including images to brighten it up, although this should perhaps be used in moderation to prevent employers being distracted! The software comes with a selection of professional fonts, and a spell checker to prevent mistakes slipping past you, which would immediately lessen the good impression on the prospective employer.

Other features of note include the provision of template cover letters to save you having to type out something new each time, and the opportunity to print matching envelopes in which to send your application, to make an instant impact on the person receiving it! My Resumes also contains a number of links to their recommended career-recruitment sites, so that you know the best places to post your resume or to search for possible jobs.

My Resumes comes with free shipping, thus increasing its value for money. It also offers a thirty-day guarantee, so that if you find the software is not what you wanted you can return it and receive a full refund if done within thirty days. Whilst this would be rather inconvenient, it does at least mean you need not worry about making an irreversible commitment when purchasing the software.

Although My Resumes doesn't contain as many features as some of its competitors, it is very cheap, comparatively speaking, and covers all the necessary elements of resume-writing and provides cover letters. It lacks any advice on preparation for interviews, which is a shame as this is a large part of the job-application, but for the confident consumer who only wishes for a basic piece of resume-writing software, this is no bad choice. Its range of styles, backgrounds and fonts does, we feel, increase its worth, as an attractive resume is far more likely to be attention-grabbing and memorable. The inclusion of key phrases and words to help you along, as well as the chance to print out matching envelopes, are also useful extras, and at a reasonable $9.99, My Resumes won't leave you bankrupt.
