Editor's Review:

If you’re a little light on cash but need to write a professional resume, quickly and easily, My Resume Online might just be your guardian angel. It offers free tools, allowing you to simply insert your information into a template. From there you can edit it, save a copy, email it or upload it to a unique URL and forward the address to potential employers.

Whilst this all sounds amazing, MyResumeBuilder is a little lacking in areas, particularly if you compare it to some of the more sophisticated resume-writing software packages available. Still, it’s free, and that’s nothing to quibble at.

So what can you expect? When you load up the home page you’ll notice that this is a well organized site, with several key areas. The most important of these is the resume builder, which we’ll come to shortly, but you will also see a range of links to various blog posts and informative articles. These are all written by industry professionals, and offer real, practical advice on how to write a resume. The information on offer will help you whether you’re new to resume writing or have already had a few applications under your proverbial belt. They’re well written, and should help to improve your resume.

The resume builder is simple to use and all works online, so there’s no need to download anything. This allows you to follow a relatively simple step by step process, filling in the relevant information as required. There aren’t a lot of templates to choose from, or design options, and there’s less focus on copying and pasting pre-written phrases, putting the power in your hands.

Subsequently, if you’re not that confident in your writing skills, this might not be the best website for you. If the site were to make improvements, we feel that helping the user to write the resume on a word by word level would really be a benefit. That said, if you have no trouble in expressing your skills and experiences then you might find MyResumeOnline to do the job quickly and efficiently. You can also check some examples of finished resumes to make sure you’re on target.

If you’re looking for some help with a cover letter, this site links you to ResumeCoverLetters.org, which offers free samples for a range of jobs. You can find an appropriate cover letter, then change a few details and – hey presto! – your cover letter is complete. Additional information on how to write an effective cover letter is also available on MyResumeOnline.org.

Whilst this website is a little basic at times, it gets the job done. It might not be ideal if you’re really struggling to write your resume and cover letter, but if you have some idea of what you want to say and how you want to say it, you should be fine here. Essentially this is a site which offers useful, practical advice on applying for jobs, as well as providing a simple tool to help you to write a professional-looking resume. What’s more, it’s free to use! So, we’d recommend taking a look, even if you decide you’re looking for something a bit more sophisticated.
